 Start a new community

Ready to get your community moving?

Starting a community doesn’t have to be complicated. Whether you are a qualified fitness professional or simply someone passionate about getting your community moving, we’ll support you every step of the way.

From workouts and challenges to community funding, booking technology and event opportunities, we provide the tools and support to help your community get started — and keep going.

Fat Farmers or Active Farmers?

You choose the name that fits your community

Fat Farmers or Active Farmers — there’s no wrong choice.

Whether you choose to become a Fat Farmers community or an Active Farmers community, the service, support and opportunities you receive are exactly the same.

Fat Farmers and Active Farmers are now integrated as part of the Fat Farmers Rural Health Initiative, giving communities the flexibility to choose the name and identity that best resonates with their people.

Fat Farmers

A well-established name with strong roots in rural communities and our broader rural health movement.

Active Farmers

A name that puts movement, activity and getting people active front and centre.

Different name. Same support. Same opportunities. Same Rural Health Initiative.

There is no right or wrong choice - simply choose the identity that you feel will connect best with your community.

You can confirm your preference when completing the onboarding form.

Champion or Trainer?

There’s more than one way to lead a community.
You don’t need to be a qualified fitness professional to be the person who gets your community moving.
Whether you are a Community Champion or a Trainer, you will receive the support you need to build an active, connected community.

Community Champion

You don’t need a fitness certificate to make a difference.

Champions are passionate community members who may not hold the qualifications required to independently deliver formal fitness sessions, but are great advocates for movement and wellbeing in their community.

You might be the person who gets everyone together for a walk, organises a social workout, encourages people to participate or simply creates the connection that gets your community moving.
As a Champion, you can facilitate your community and receive the same ongoing Rural Health Initiative support as a qualified trainer.

Community Trainer

Are you a qualified trainer?

Bring Fat Farmers or Active Farmers into your existing business.

If you’re a qualified fitness or movement professional, you can be a Fat Farmers or Active Farmers Trainer without having to change what you already do.

You might run your own gym, classes or fitness brand and simply add one FF or AF class a week, or choose to make all your classes part of the initiative. It’s a great way to connect with a new demographic, build your community and grow your business — while helping more people in rural communities get active.

Either way, your support remains the same.

Champion and/or Trainer support includes:

  • Annual community budget

  • Booking app and community management tools

  • Access to workouts and training resources

  • Community challenges

  • Support and opportunities to run events

  • Ideas and resources to build participation and connection

  • Ongoing support from the Rural Health Initiative team

Your role is simple:
Get people moving, create connection and build a community that people want to be part of.
